Decerning to be an Entrepreneur

Deciding to to be an entrepreneur and being an entrepreneur can be decidedly two different items !  If “decide” equals “A”, meaning you definitely want your own business how is A to Z accomplished.

Like anything in our world today there is an onslaught of information available about setting up a business, the processes, and management. Book after book has been written and the internet abounds with websites on the subject.

All of that information can be overwhelming! Take a moment; everything in your head regarding the vision needs to be written down. Why? Because you will forget it otherwise and waste time reinventing your thoughts.

What brought you to decide on this path is important. Keeping a journal is akin to a rough business plan. Now you are ready to start the formal process. If money is an issue use free resources. An excellent resource is the US Small Business Association at www.sba.gov . The site has excellent tools.

An assessment is the starting point. Determining your readiness objectively is the goal. After completing the assessment on-line immediate feedback is provided and a list of training resources. Every step of setting up business process is taught on this site.  So if you decide to pay for help in set-up and maintenance you will know the correct steps and be able to monitor knowledgeably.

Getting to “Z” requires some basic steps.
Choose a company name.  Select and know your product or service. Commit to doing a business plan. The plan covers the content needed to build the business. What is the finance structure? Is a license or permits needed.? Establish an ownership entity. Where will the business operate? Develop strategy for marketing, knowing competitors, manufacturing, shipping, and customer service. Of course tax management is imperative.

Preparation creates success ans is  personally fulfilling. Having a network of mentors to strategize and converse with is very important also. Entrepreneurism can be controlling and all consuming because typical entrepreneurs find excitement in building a business and success.

Remember, friends, family and colleagues help keep you balanced and life in perspective.
