Unless you or someone you know has a disability, employment challenges of the impaired population perhaps is out of your scope.  Finding work for the mentally challenged is very difficult per the website informationonmentalhealth.com and is an informational advocate for these folks. 
The author of the article “Employment for People with Disabilities” at informationonmentalhealth.com/2009/01/26/employment-for- people-with-disabilities.html suggests upcoming vacancies created by baby-boomers retiring opens many opportunities for the disabled workforce. “Getting beyond the issues of disability itself”, is the challenge for some employers but recognizing unique skills and accommodating the persons differences can be a win-win for both per the article.
State agencies to assist employers with a successful experience employing a challenged worker are highlighted and a network within the US Department of Labor or JAN.  See more about JAN in the article.
