How often have you done something for someone else that you would not have done for yourself? It is so much easier to be kind to someone else than it is to be kind to oneself.
People are taught since childhood to be kind to others. "Take it easy!" your mother would yell when you were pushing your friend on a swing. But, children are never taught how to be kind to themselves. They have been programmed by parents who had no intention of hurting them. Nevertheless, they managed to make their children insecure with their yelling of commands. Sometimes, they would even ask "are you stupid?" It is no
wonder that a person may have a low self esteem.
So, it is about time people learned how to treat themselves with the same kindness that they show to others. Go out and buy that one special item that you have wanted for the last year, you deserve it. You have given enough of your time and energy to that neighbor down the street who always seems to be in need. Save some for yourself and go out to dinner with a friend you haven't talked to in about a week. Make a date to spend the entire evening doing what you want to do. If you do something that offends someone, say you're sorry and get over it. Don't let it ruin your entire life by dwelling on it. Things happen!
